What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

It's a martial art form that promotes the concept that a smaller opponent can defeat a bigger stronger opponents through the use of technique, leverage, and joint manipulation. Since 90% of bullying situations end up on the ground, it's important for children to know how to defend themselves from this position.

What is Kickboxing?

Kickboxing is a Martial Art Form that combines elements of Karate, Boxing, and Tae Kwon Do. It teaches children to defend themselves from a Standing Position. Children do not spar in our program; rather, they learn self defense on dummies, pads, mitts, and punching bags.

Octane MMA Kid's Program accepts students age 4-12. We separate students Ages 4-7, and 8-12 for an Optimal Learning Environment.

What Does a Typical Class Look Like?

At Octane MMA, we have a very structured curriculum. Each class begins with a 10 minute Warm-up involving Jogging, Stretching, and Agility Drills (bear crawls, cartwheels, army crawls, forward and backward rolls, etc). Next, we move into Jiu Jitsu or Kickboxing Techniques for 35 minutes. The following 10 minutes focuses on a Life Lesson via the Word of the Week. We end every class with a 5 minute game to let kids have some fun, because we've learned that the opportunity for game time is motivation to work hard during class. Classes can lose game time for negative behavior during class.

Life Lesson Portion of Class

Each month, we have two words that we focus on. We teach students lessons about these words with examples of how children should enact them in their daily life. Things like honesty, courage, kindness, manners, courteousness, selflessness. and much more.

Our goal with our program isn't to create world-level athletes; it's to create productive, respectful members of society who understand that being a good human being outweighs athletic achievements.

Every month, eligible students are tested for Promotion based on progression & attendance. Students will have to show comprehension of material from the previous month's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Curriculum, as well as a Written Test on our Life Lesson Portion of Class. New belts show students that their hard work pays off and shows Progress in Training.

This will give you a pretty good idea of what Live Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Competition looks like. Children are NOT REQUIRED to compete to be a part of our program, but it's recommended so they can see progress and areas of their game that need attention.
